Hello everyone, let's begin a new article off to a great start. I'm Katrina from Living with Disabilities. You're tuned into the Living with Disabilities advocacy website dedicated to helping people comprehend the disabled community. The core purpose of our website is to assist society in recognizing the full range of various disabilities and conditions. Accessibility is a key component of this understanding. Without accessibility, there's exclusion. Living with Disabilities will be celebrating 10 years of advocacy on March 31. Therefore, the host, Katrina, will be presenting another article for March.  This week, we will highlight a comment received on the 14th of this month's article, Living with Disabilities Responds to Lul Panther.

As the saying goes, "Where there is darkness there shall be light." One of our listeners shared their comment regarding Lul Panther's feedback on the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). This should connect well with issues faced by people with disabilities, particularly from the perspective of a parent who has a child with a disability. It highlights the challenges their child faces while trying to achieve their goals, as there are obstacles in the way.

From the outset of a child's life, they will encounter numerous challenges. With these challenges, they will require assistance in overcoming them. However, the question remains as to how one can find the answers to these difficulties.

Answering the question should be very easy, especially if you are an open-minded person. Before finding the solution, it is essential to map out a plan on how a child can gain access to whatever their needs are. It is akin to working in a science lab but instead sketching or writing various scenarios. It is almost like determining where to place the jigsaw pieces in the puzzle. You are essentially creating a pathway for a child's success. This is what accessibility entails.

To clarify, what does a trophy signify in the context of disability community? Having the opportunity to go through life without obstacles that would prevent a child from succeeding is one of the essential aspects. The term "trophy" holds different meanings for each individual with a disability as mentioned in the previous, Priya Ray, a musician, artist, and disability-rights activist, has a spinal cord injury. For her, waking up each day is her trophy.  This is another perspective on the word: trophies are awarded to individuals once they have achieved their goals; they serve as a reward for their accomplishments.

Therefore, people with disabilities require accommodations, including accessibility. Regardless of whether their disabilities are visible or hidden, each person has the right to use accommodations that are suitable for them.

Living with Disabilities wants you to know that we are here to listen. We understand that your voice is your most powerful tool, so we encourage you to share your thoughts with us.
