Are We Being Heard? Inclusion matters

Welcome to the Living With Disabilities Advocacy website. First and foremost. Self-published author Katrina Smith, a person of many accomplishments, has written six volumes in total: two cookbooks and four collections of poetry. Her favorite activities include reading and writing. Katrina would be described by one word: determined. Despite any challenges she may encounter, she does not let unkind comments decide her fate.

If you're a new visitor to this advocacy website, this page aims to increase public understanding of those with disabilities and other conditions.

We suggest you seek a licensed professional counselor or healthcare provider for anything you read on this site.

This week, Living With Disabilities will touch base on protesting and having people with disabilities' voices heard.

A group of disabled individuals began protesting the 504 sit-ins on April 5, 1977. protesting in San Francisco to call for increased consideration and accessibility for people with disabilities This well-known protest is known as the "504 Sit-in". As a result of this protest, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was ultimately passed into law, advancing disability rights in America.

In order to hear and see the beginning of the protesting era, those of us who were too young to even recall the protest that was taking place at the time can watch the Crip Camp documentary. And even then, it was a constant battle to get society to pay attention. However, some members of that society were alert and took action.

However, do you believe there should be a more significant demonstration in front of the building that lacks disability-related awareness, or do you believe your voice is being heard with less effort? We can see that there are several locations where effort is being made. However, there is still a ton of work to be done.

So, are you listening to us? which = inclusion, or are we still at the starting line, needing to demonstrate in order to bring on a severe migraine that no amount of medicine can cure?

Since we are here to advocate for others by using our disability to teach those who desire to learn, we are not requesting a cure for them. However, we are not being heard everywhere. while you stress over getting paid soon. Some of us still struggle to move from point A to point B due to improper accessibility. You are reluctant to invest extra money to make the necessary corrections because voices have been voiced repeatedly.

Now, 46 years later, in 2023, some items are still not completely accessible. Have you heard of or seen the mother of disability rights activist Judy Huemann? Have you seen the documentary Crip Camp? In 1977, she should be thanked along with her camp staff, Camp Jened. They started the 504 sit-ins and twice voted for former President Richard M. Nixon to sign the Rehabilitation Act, which started the entire process. However, the law had not been put into effect four years later. Since it would have been extremely expensive to convert and repair all of the numerous federally sponsored buildings around the nation in order to comply with the new criteria, the action was put off for years while governments changed.

However, the right personnel The government does not want to invest more money to carry out its duties properly. So, on the one hand, inclusion is taking place and we are being heard. Little Jack Horner takes their thumb out of a Christmas pie as other people's activities are being performed. We underline that until accessibility occurs, they should all be put in a corner without any Christmas pie.

Let's stop living in greed and start looking at people with disabilities as a person first and foremost. When there is a question or concern address it, without hesitation, rather than sweeping the issue under the doormat or creating an issue as to why it can't be done. We're here and we're not going anywhere.

Group training needs to be a given if you are a business owner and have workers. We're not discussing how to train animals. Training is learning how to comprehend a person with a disability, what modifications are required, and if any modifications are even necessary. Consider having a drill now and again; these drills will be considered business meetings. We at Living With Disabilities hope you're making application-related notes. You may distribute this knowledge to your coworkers whether you run a business or are a salaried worker.

Let's examine the 504 plan for potential issues. Put down the pie you're sitting in the corner eating while you're playing Little Jack Horner. and develop wisdom and relinquish greed. due to the ADA's 33rd anniversary this year. Since our views have already been heard, there shouldn't be a need for a rally. It is time to make progress and stop holding back persons with disabilities. Well done if you've already performed at your best.
