Hidden Disabilities Are Real
First, welcome to the Living With Disabilities Advocacy Website. It's run by none other than Katrina Smith, a person with a learning disability. Her mission behind Living With Disabilities is to bring awareness to all people with disabilities.
Today, Living With Disabilities wants to discuss hidden disabilities since there is skepticism when it comes to persons who have an invisible condition.
People with invisible disabilities are frequently overlooked, and people with various types of invisible disabilities work tirelessly to advocate for their disabilities. Here is the why factor; it's not physically notable. So, people with invisible disabilities have to speak up and work harder. We all know what comes with working harder: loads of stress. But, people with invisible disabilities won't go mute on making their voices heard.

No matter what others may say or think, being a person with a disability may be quite stressful when it comes to addressing it. Living With Disabilities wishes to share a person's story who works hard every day to speak about their invisible disability. However, they don't just focus on their condition or one particular disability. They won't stop until the world has changed, either. Katrina Smith prefers to be referred to first as a person, then as her occupation, and finally as a survivor of an automobile accident. She refuses to let her disability define who she is. We'll turn the microphone over to Katrina so she can tell her tale and explain why she thinks she must fight for people with disabilities of all kinds, not just her own.
In the year 1977, a story that would bring many sad tears to many parents' eyes became tears of joy in my mother's eyes at the end. This journey is very heartbreaking for a young child or any person in general. But, I'm here by the grace of God. When I was nine months old, a person made a very foolish decision to drive under the influence. Their actions led to me having a learning disability along with other medical conditions such as hypothyroidism and grand mal seizures.
When the thyroid does not create enough thyroid hormones, the disease known as hypothyroidism results. There are several kinds of hypothyroidism that need to be addressed. Simply said, hypothyroid is a name. There are various kinds. These categories are regarded as levels. My hypothyroidism level is unknown. Grand Mal Tonic-clonic seizures are another name for seizures, which are neurological conditions. Some people see warnings before their seizures. I don't experience any red flags in my situation. I take medication to maintain their stability.
I developed seizures and a learning disability from the impact of the damage from the accident. left me with seizures and a learning disability. Yet, doctors had opinions about my life, or rather, they created their quizzes about my life. It was more of an A, B, or C quiz, and that was it. What were the A, B, and C? I'll tell you. Before getting there, I'll share that I was in a coma for six months and in a semi-comma for three months.

The test of life or death.
A. I would continue to be in a vegetative state. I'm awake but have no sense of where I am. I would have regular waking and sleeping patterns.
B. I would pass away, and since we already understand what it entails, there is no reason to finish this sentence.
C. I'd choose to reside in a facility for persons with disabilities. Additionally, these facilities were for young people with serious disabilities.
It is quite evident who the survivor is and that none of the doctors passed their Life or Death Test about my life.
Because I was projectile vomiting and had fluid accumulating in my head, I had to wear a Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt. I also had to relearn how to walk and talk.
God had bigger plans than the doctors' predictions and delivered me from my accident.
From here, Living with Disabilities will take over.
As you can see, Katrina is a fighter who has persevered despite any other challenges that may have stood in her way. She might occasionally have trouble understanding, which can make her frustrated. But despite her current state of annoyance, she will push through it and carry out her plans regardless of what happens.
Once again speaking, Katrina says, "Despite the challenges, I did complete high school and have some college experience. and is currently traveling educational highways. I can then work as a guidance counselor for younger disabled youngsters. My calling is to assist younger children with disabilities since I experienced it when I was younger and I want to show younger children that they can succeed too, in their manner, by overcoming different difficulties.
Living With Disabilities is attempting to raise awareness of society's misconceptions about those with invisible disabilities. Skeptics are those who don't believe, and skepticism goes hand in hand with that.
Because there are no obvious mobility aids to help them move through life, there is a great deal of skepticism toward those with hidden disabilities. People with these disorders must therefore communicate, and they are more likely to provide evidence.
