Coming into this world is a great experience, transitioning from one rim to the next, The Spiritual world to Mother Earth. We as people enter into the world with mental or physical disabilities. Some may develop a disability later in life. According to Katrina Smith, the host of Living With Disabilities.
In 2018 Katrina Smith, dealt with Depression, her depression left her unmotivated in doing things, she would find herself constantly laying down in her bed with tears flowing down her face one morning, she woke up crying silently. So, she quickly grabbed her phone off her nightstand and immediately reached out to one of her siblings. Katrina sibling shared with her that what she was dealing with was Depression. And she needs to let her mother know what's going on with her. So, she went to another sibling of hers and was sharing what she was going through, trying to hold back tears as she started sharing what was going on. Now, this was the second sibling she had reached out to. When she finally reached out to her mother about it, her mother understood what was going on and helped her daughter through it. Katrina never had suicidal thoughts, she just had moments of deep sadness and no energy in doing anything she loved. This included watching television with her family. While they were having fun laughing, she would be in her room sitting or laying down.
What was Katrina's number one issue during her depression state? Exercising.
Living With Disabilities wants to bring another article to you that surrounds people with disabilities. When it comes to exercising, people with disabilities will or will not deal with limitations. And Living With Disabilities. Before we explain limitations, Living With Disabilities, needs to put out a disclaimer alert: People with disabilities are capable human beings, and despite their Mental or Physical disability, there are no limits in their disabilities. It's all how an able body proceeds it. Now that the disclaimer has been placed, shall we move on from there? Physical activity plays an important role in maintaining excellent health, well-being and, good quality of life. Exercising helps with multiple issues. Like, Diabetes and other medical conditions.
What exercise can people with disabilities do? Walking, Running, Cycling, Dancing, Tennis, and Swimming. * Living With Disabilities will be using the term abled body when talking about people with disabilities, this is to show that people with disabilities are no different than their abled body partners. So, do continue to read on. All the same exercises people who are able body can do. And just like able people can use modifications, people with disabilities use modifications too.
Why is exercising important for people with disabilities? Living With Disabilities will be standing in society's shoes right now, and tell you from their standpoint. People with disabilities have other issues and need to stay more active than abled body people because like we mentioned other issues. So, when exercising people with disabilities have to work harder to keep their bodies moving. Can we debunk the mind of society? Yes, people with disabilities will and have debunked society's minds. People with disabilities work out the same as abled body people. Like, Living With Disabilities has mentioned earlier, there's really no difference between an abled body and people with disabilities, they both use modifications.
How to make a person with a disability active? Choose work out that are 2 hours and 30 minutes a week for intense cardio. Start the workout slowly and at your own pace.
Next How to stay motivated when feeling unmotivated or depressed. Like, Katrina Smith story in 2018, she had her family motivated her to stay active, Living With Disabilities, will be giving you some advice on how you too can stay motivated. 1. Build a goal, start small.
2. Play soothing music. * Like, Jazz. No music with painful lyrics. You don't want any flashbacks of any kind. painful lyrics can trigger the mind. Therefore, soothing music calms a racing mind down.
3. Finding a mentor. Like, Katrina has so many people surrounding her in her life, her family is her mentor. You can find a mentor to help guide you and keep you on track.
4. Surround yourself with positive people.
5. Exercise *if exercising is unmotivated, find a partner to workout with to help you stay in the game, or purchase a fitness tracker "Smartwatch".
What to do when you begin to relapse
1. Change your surroundings, to take your mind off the problem.
2. Be your own reminder, Remind yourself why you are here and etc...
3. Adopt a positive mindset, Negativity is like a Hurricane, it distorts your mindset. Therefore, adopting a positive mindset helps with motivation.
4. Surrounding yourself around good people. Like, Adopt a positive mindset, you want to be around people who will be there to pump you up in good spirits.
5. Have a DFW (Down For Whatever) Attitude. You will get the picture when Living With Disabilities says this, you have to change your way of seeing things. * If you are dealing with depression, you will need extra guidance, and that is okay. Change does not happen overnight, nor is it expected to happen overnight. (Tip: find a hat you love that makes you smile every time you put it on, this is your Down For Whatever Hat). You are going out with a new attitude in good vibes.
6. Be composed, Know that it takes time to recuperate. And don't think out of frustrations. For a quick boost of energy go outside for a walk.
7. Treat yourself, There's nothing better than rewarding yourself for something. Like, when you have reached one of your goal's treat yourself with a treat and etc...
